Terrace Devon Haspil (21), has been arraigned in federal court in Manhattan on suspicion of killing Fahim Saleh (33), co-founder of Bangladesh's Share Riding app, shortly after midnight on July 17, New York time.
A virtual hearing is being held in a New York court due to the corona virus situation. Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Linda Ford presented the suspected killer, Terrace Haspil, in court, saying the electric saw and washing equipment bought by Haspil from a shop called Homedipo were found in Fahim Saleh's apartment.
Attorney Linda Ford told the court by video conference that the suspected killer's clothing seen in the video captured on CCTV was found at Terrace Haspil's Brooklyn home. In addition, the New York police investigation team has been able to identify Haspil through technology.
Attorney Linda Ford said there was strong evidence that Haspil was involved in Fahim Saleh's murder, adding that at least two identifiers had identified Haspil from surveillance videos before and after the crime.
Assistant District Attorney Linda Ford told the court that Terrace Hospital stole at least 90,000 from young technologist Fahim Saleh. Saleh has offered to return the money in installments without going to the police or legal recourse against him.
The prosecution is not yet sure about the motive for the killings. It is believed that money laundering and personal matters were the cause of the killings. According to the prosecution, they are investigating whether Haspil has returned any money. It is being investigated whether this debt persuaded him to commit murder, or whether he did so for fear of being reported to the police if he refused to pay back the money.
Judge Jonathan Svetki ordered Haspil's detention without bail. So far, he has been charged with second-degree murder by the prosecution. The judge ordered Terrace Haspil to appear in court again on August 17.
Police recovered Fahim Saleh's mutilated body from his apartment in Manhattan, New York City, on the afternoon of July 14. Initially, the murder was thought to be the work of an extreme professional killer, but police arrested the killer within 72 hours of the incident. Police arrested Teresa Devon Haspil, a 21-year-old former personal executive of Fahim Saleh, on Friday morning, July 17.
